Nasi Liwet


Material :

  • 2 cups rice, about 370 grams

  • 5 cloves of red onion, halved

  • 3 cloves of garlic, halved

  • 3 bay leaves

  • 1 lemongrass stalk, crushed

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil used to fry anchovies (can be replaced with margarine)

  • 3 gendot chilies, halved (can be replaced with cayenne pepper)


How to make :

  • Wash the rice thoroughly, then add enough water, about half to one liter. Water can also be replaced with chicken stock and coconut milk. The amount is more or less the same.

  • Add the onion, garlic, bay leaf, lemongrass, and oil, mix well. Cooking in a magic com or rice cooker is like cooking ordinary rice.

  • A few moments before the rice is served, arrange the gendot chili on it. Close the rice cooker again and let it rest for about five minutes.

  • Serve and sprinkle with anchovies or fried onions.
